Participating in the Break Through Tech AI Program not only honed Hritika's technical skills but also gave her the confidence to pursue a career in machine learning applications.
Hritika Chaturvedi, a senior at UCLA majoring in Computational and Systems Biology, is charting an exciting path in technology. Set to graduate in 2025, Hritika has always been intrigued by the intersection of biology and machine learning. When she stumbled upon a LinkedIn post by a Cornell student sharing their experience with Break Through Tech, she knew it was the perfect opportunity to take her passion for machine learning to the next level.
“I was looking for something beyond a simple coding bootcamp as my introduction to ML,” Hritika explains. “This program seemed ideal in that it offered mentorship, a project to initiate my technical portfolio, and a concise machine learning curriculum.”
Hritika’s instincts were spot on. Participating in the Break Through Tech AI program not only honed her technical skills but also gave her the confidence to pursue a career in machine learning applications. “Break Through Tech has certainly confirmed my interest in applying ML to meaningful projects. I’ve learned about its various applications and developed a network of ambitious individuals who inspire and support me.”
“Don’t be afraid to ask for help, take the time to learn from others’ experiences with code, and remain connected with the Break Through Tech community.”
One of her most memorable experiences was working on a project with Accenture, where she and her team built a logistic regression model to predict three ideal office locations for the company. “Break Through Tech provided my first exposure to the corporate world, which had always intimidated me. My first visit to the Accenture office was filled with warmth. Meeting my team members, enjoying lunch in the office, and brainstorming ideas settled my nerves and gave me confidence.”
When she’s not immersed in machine learning or academic pursuits, Hritika enjoys photography, singing, and outdoor activities. Her advice to future Break Through Tech participants is simple but powerful: “Don’t be afraid to ask for help, take the time to learn from others’ experiences with code, and remain connected with the Break Through Tech community.”
As she looks ahead to graduation, Hritika is eager to continue exploring how machine learning can drive meaningful change in society. Break Through Tech has been a pivotal stepping stone on her journey, bridging the gap between academic theory and real-world applications.
